Testimonials

As a 30 year veteran emergency care provider and educator, I tend to be somewhat skeptical of new emergency care products. I like to see the clinical data on use and effectiveness and when possible use it myself, before introducing or recommending products to my clients or students.

Never the less, when I first saw the Life Mask® Face Shield two years ago, I was impressed with its design and utility. Although I didn't have much data, I liked it and adopted it for our Emergency First Care programs. In fact, I began to carry one in my own wallet.

I'm happy to report to you that I now have the most exciting "data" I could have gathered: a personal and successful use of the Life Mask® Face Shield in an actual cardiac arrest event.

Recently while traveling to Phoenix (ironically to teach first aid and CPR) I encountered a 50 year old woman in cardiac arrest at the Philadelphia International Airport. Someone had just began CPR and, after verifying the patient's pulselessness/non-breathing status, I provided ventilations using a Life Mask® Face Shield. When the paramedics arrived, I continued to assist as they defibrillated her and performed other ALS procedures. When I departed the scene the woman was in a normal sinus rhythm but unconscious and not breathing on her own.

I learned a week later that she was still alive in a Philadelphia hospital and in critical condition. Personally I didn't hold out much hope but I was thankful that I had the opportunity to do what I did. Imagine my joy and excitement, however, when right before Christmas I received a beautiful letter (and photograph) from this woman who has made a complete recovery.

Had I not had a protective device available I don't know if I would have even attempted to help. However, I did have a Life Mask® Face Shield. I found it to be extremely easy and natural to use and I was certainly able to adequately ventilate the patient. Most of all the outcome was every would-be-rescuer's dream- a live, happy and grateful patient.

Thank you for providing such a simple but great product.

Sincerely,

Frank J. Poliafico, RN

Dear Life Mask,

I bought 3 of your CPR Life Mask® Compact Barriers from one of your distributors and had the chance to use one while on duty, I work at a Hotel where I am Chief of Security. We had an eight year old boy drown in our pool.

About 5:05pm I got a call on my radio that there was a body at the bottom of the pool. It took me about 20 seconds to get to the pool area where guests had just pulled him out. His mouth was blue and his skin was ash gray. I was having trouble opening the boys mouth. The only thing I could get in his mouth to keep it open was your Compact Barrier. I started CPR and by the time the ambulance crew arrived, the boy was breathing on his own.

I think you have a terrific product. Thank you.

I am a police officer for the city of Phoenix and am currently assigned to patrol in the South Mountain Precinct. One day while off-duty I attended a uniform expo at the Hyatt Regency in the downtown area. Shortly after the show I was informed by an employee of John's Uniform store that I had won a Life Mask® as a door prize. Due to the previous problems with the mask that I was issued by the Phoenix Police Department, I began carrying the Life Mask® in the front seat of my patrol car.

On 1/21/93 I was one of three officers who responded to a call of "a subject down." I was the second officer on the scene after Sgt. G.T. Barnes. When I arrived she was kneeling over a male who was laying on his back on the sidewalk. As I got out of my patrol car she yelled for me to grab my mask. I quickly retrieved my Life Mask® from the front seat of my patrol car. When I got to the subject, he was turning blue and not breathing. Sgt. Barnes attempeted to clear the airway and I administered resuscitation with the Life Mask® I was given as a door prize. I provided mouth to mouth resuscitation with the mask for approximately two minutes before the Phoenix Fire Department arrived. They continued to administer to the subjects airway and injected narcan to reverse the effects of what appeared to be a heroin overdose. The subject immediately responded to the narcan and was stabilized.

According to the Fire Department Captain on Engine #6 who responded to the scene, the subjects life was saved by the resuscitation provided through the Life Mask®. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the mask which provided the means for me to save a human life. Under the circumstances, had I not had the mask, it is probable that this person would have suffed permanent debillitating effects or death.
